Counselling

The Telephone Counselling Service (Hotline) was established in 2007 as a means of creating wider connections with young people and promoting greater use of services provided by the Youth Center.
Telephone counselling covers a wide range of topics, including sexual health, reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections, family planning and contraception, addiction problems, love and sex, mental health and general youth issues.

Services

The Hotline operates from 9.00 – 17.00, Monday to Friday. The target groups of the hotline are young people in Lao PDR, aged 10 - 24. The hotline has one line reserved for girls and young women Tel: 1361, and one for boys and young men Tel: 137. There is also a WhatsApp number for consultations 020 52174490. The service is free of charge

Duties and Responsibilities of Counsellors

  • The outreach team works with local community and business leaders to arrange site visits.
  • Team members are equipped to lead and facilitate education, training and counselling activities, including basic training for peer volunteers, comprehensive training for peer educators and training of trainer programs.
  • The team also conducts training for health care staff on delivering youth friendly services.
  • The team continuously identifies new knowledge and practice in the field of youth engagement and peer education.
  • Regular reports on activities are prepared to evaluate the continuing effectiveness of the service.
